Newt Gingrich has created much excitement by raising substantial policy issues. He has infact pleaded for longer discussions instead of the inane sound bites that Americans have to suffer. That is among several of his good ideas.
Its too bad that he is most passionate about controlling the borders to stop illegal immigration. This is a failed idea which has been the undoing of Pete Wilson among others. He refuses to listen to reason and recognize that a broken immigration law, perverted by its illogical political motivation, is the problem and closing the borders is just plain lunacy.
Unlike some of his peers on the far right, such as Ann Coulter, who are unabashedly demagogic, Newt takes a more civilized course and uses analogies to be persuasive. To his critics, he says that it should be possible to track down every illegal immigrant if Fedex can provide a status on the movement of each package. This is a completely misleading analogy as I have explained in great detail on my Blog
